FREE Auto-Tune Plugins You Can Use Right Now For Pitch Correction And More

Autotune, autotune plugins, free pitch correction plugin, and pitch correction module... What are all of these? And which ones should you use?

If you’re in the music production game you know about Auto-Tune, the pitch correction tool. This is one of the rare music production tools that crossed over and became a household name. Originally it was simply used to polish up small pitch inconsistencies but nowadays it’s used as a very cool effect by many artists—especially those who tend to like that crisp robotic sound in their hooks like Lil Wayne or T Pain.

The downside, though, is that if you’re on a budget you may not be able to afford this tool. But we’ve got your back, fam! So in this article, we’ll show you some of the best free autotune plugins (that aren’t Antares Autotune or Melodyne) that you can use. Let’s get after it!

And of course, the tools we mention in this article are not the only pitch correction or free autotune plugins there are. There are plenty more of these tools! This is just a concise guide to give you an idea of where to get started when checking them out. After all, even if you're wanting a natural vibrato sound, you can still benefit from using autotune plugins—especially if it's a free autotune plugin, am I wrong?

MAuto Pitch

You can find the MAutoPitch in the MFreeFXBundle, which is probably one of the most popular plugin bundles online because it includes 37 different plugins! MAutoPitch’s basic version not only comes with a pitch correction tool but also with the ability to set the affected frequency range so that you find the perfect level of “AutoTuneness" you’re looking for.

Obviously being able to set the scale, frequency-specific detection settings, built-in limiter, and stereo width controls are all major pros! The downside, though, is that you have to install the entire MFreeFXBundle and this can result in unwanted artifacting.

Auburn Sounds Graillon 2

A vocal plugin that lets you shape your voice in any way? Sounds too good to be true. But with Graillon 2, it actually is! The free version of this amazing tool includes pitch-shifting and pitch correction modules for tuning problems all singers face. You can get chipmunk vocals or something close to “classic" AutoTune sound., of course, you can also create that robotic sound with this autotune plugin.

And one great thing about it: You can input MIDI notes into the software so when they play those specific pitches on their keyboard (or whatever other instrument), that will control what note comes out instead, making sure everything stays timed perfectly together while still giving each element its own space within a song.

Another cool thing about this free autotune plugin is that you can adjust how quickly a correction kicks in so if you want a robotic kind of sound you can set it fast and if you want a more natural effect you can set it slower. The only downside to this plugin is that the user manual is very confusing but you’ll get over that!

Beatlab Autotuna

Autotuna is a Max for Live device released by Cycling ’74, the company behind Max. (For those uninitiated: It’s an amazing programming language that can create signal processing plugins and music to make your vocals sound awesome.) Originally it was available as part of their Pitch & Time Machines pack in Ableton Live 9 Suite when it first launched way back at version 8 or so- nobody knew what would happen but now we're here!

The best part is that it’s compatible with Ableton Push scale sync and quite flexible scale options. The only thing that sucks about it is that it doesn’t have correction speed adjustment so keep that in mind.  It does have pitch correction, though, of course.

Logic Pitch Correction

You might already know Pitch Correction as the workhorse of vocal plugins. It's pre-installed with Logic Pro X and was also included in older versions, like 9! It's easy to use. You set the key of your vocal performance, and if there are notes you want to entirely eliminate from possible outcomes it corrects them right away for you.

There’s an option for “show input” which tells what sounds will be produced when no adjustments have yet been made, which makes things much easier! This pitch-correction plugin will be your new best friend if you need to do quick vocal tuning.

It's lightweight and doesn't take up many system resources. So it doesn’t require super powerful machines. Plus, the autotune feature makes every voice sound like it's been recorded in a professional studio, which saves time in post-production later down the line (especially for those who don't yet know everything about how pitch corrections work).

Voloco

Sometimes — not always, but sometimes — you want the quick and dirty option when it comes to vocal tuning. Maybe your voice sounds boxy in certain frequencies and using an EQ plugin like Voloco instead of changing some settings on a device or software program (which could take a very long time) will do the trick!

Or maybe you don’t want to deal with a bunch of stuff and all you’re looking for is something simple with hard-tuned presets like "Daft Punk" which will give your vocals those edgy robotic qualities without any hassle!

Voloco’s free version comes with six preset vocal processing modes: Hard, natural, super vocoder, big chorus, alien warlord, and night chorus. Hard will probably be your default but don't sleep on big chorus, which has an Imogen Heap Esque vocoder quality to it.

The Bottom Line

And that's it! These are 5 free autotune plugins you can use for free if you don't want to pay for auto-tune for pitch correction. And of course, there are other autotune plugins but we didn't want to overwhelm you!  Whether you're looking for pitch correction software, searching for something that makes you sound deeper, or for something that helps you with your original sound, having these free pitch correction tools in your "to check out" checklist will do you well!

If you're an aspiring music producer, especially in the hip hop niche, you're well aware of how popular some sounds, like the robotic sounds, have become. So, it's up to you! Each one of these tools has its pitch wheel, which will enable you to use its pitch correction algorithm as you please.

You can still get a natural sound or even smoother sound despite using a pitch correction tool. You just gotta decide what you'd like to sound like! It all comes down to your original sound, whatever creative tool you use is just that, a tool. You're free to fine-tune the details according to whatever you have in mind, of course.
